"And you run and you run,
to catch up with the sun,
but its sinking,
racing around,
to come up behind you again.
The sun is same,
in a relative way,
but your older.
Shorter of breath,
and one day closer to death."
Pink Floyd, a band with enormous impact, a band which would record in the Beatles recording studio, Abbey Road, and a band whose album "Dark Side of the Moon," went on to become one of rock and rolls pantheon albums of all time, approaching the sales of the Beatles in popularity. Why do you suppose young folks connected so heavily to lyrics like these? Yes it's true the music was hauntigly different, but the lyrics themselves are known, repeated often, and if you ask a young person if they've heard of Pink Floyd, good chance that they have, and good chance they are familiar with these very words, they are some of Pink Floyd's most popular. Would it surprise you to know that they are, outlandish as it might sound, coming from principles expressed in the Bible? Sure it's easy to see it now isn't it? Ecclesiates, the book of James, wisdom literature such as Proverbs, even the Psalms, contain refrain very similar to this. It sticks with us, because it has the ring of truth, it is how we live the life out, which God has granted us time to do, isn't that outlandish, because you see, we ignore God's timetable and God's instructions, and we take up our own. We know better than God how we ought to spend His time, after all, they are our lives, are they not? So as the title suggests and as the song says, run...because what Christ says is, stop running. Think about it love, it's all you've got, isn't it time to slow it down a bit, and listen to God? He's trying to tell you something, as outlandish as that might seem; God is trying to get your attention about what matters, and I can guaranty you this, it won't be...where you're running to right now...two things matter to God and running on the treadmill of materialism to get another red brick, or, auto, or, piece of clothes, or, whatever else you figure you have to run to buy...God hasn't sanctioned it, and honestly, how longs it been since you stopped running long enought to hear God as He actually speaks to you? Oh I know, its outlandish...run on..."run and run, to catch up with the sun...but its sinking..."
