You Can Be Hilarious

Ever find yourself in a place where you feel discarded, like a doormat, that what is really going on is, you are being put to use, but you feel it? Tony Campolo one of the most powerful and spectacular evangelists I'd ever heard preach, tells one of his favorite reads by Marjorie Williams, "The Velveteen Rabbit," where Skin Horse explains that he looks really rough because: "Sometimes," said the skin horse for he was always truthful. "When you are real you don't mind being hurt, that is why it doesn't happen to those who break easily or have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are real most of your hair has been loved off. Your eyes drop out; you get loose in the joints; you look very shabby. These things don't matter at all because once you are real, you can never be ugly except to people who don't understand."
Here is a confession from me to you, not there yet, often its my curse to feel used, rather than to understand it is a blessing to be a doormat, otherwise the mud and grime that is kicked off on you will get into the house. It is important, however, to take that hurt to Jesus, this is my opinion, from a guy who has had his heart ripped up royally many times, not cryin' in my beer here, just sayin', folks generally are good folks, but they usually don't get that they can crush your heart, with the small things they don't do, not the large things they do. That crushing of the heart is what Jesus really gets, and He is an expert at getting it lined back up again so you can take some more. Take it from a person who wants nothing more than to walk away from so many relationships that are so painful, so many people who are so hurtful, simply because, they really aren't, as the movie says, "all that much into you," its easy to say that we are here to point others to Christ, so it won't bother us when we become the doormat for someone's inconsiderate and easily corrected lack of caring, but the truth is a little bit different, each small detail of lack of concern registers, and while we are instructed to forgive as we are forgiven, which would be the ideal, the truth is, we don't make very good doormats and we still feel each wipe of the foot. This is what Christ knows and when we take that to Him in prayer, this is often what we need to bear in mind when we think we have been cruelly, without any sensitivity treated as if though our heart mattered not, call this to mind about the One that we lift our prayers to, for this is an eternal truth of God:

Isa 53:3

He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were [our] faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Then remember that what we are to be about is making it better, somehow, today lets make sure that if we love somebody, we don't let the day go bye without telling them those very words, you see, like the Skin Horse, and the doormat, they may be rubbed pretty raw, and just hearing the heart to heart of loving words can help when deeds have proved otherwise about some, those words may help you remember to pray.
